Former Jacksonville Sheriff Nat Glover was recognized Tuesday during the Florida Cabinet meeting by Gov. Rick Scott for his “dedication to higher education and the community of Jacksonville.”

Glover was the first African-American sheriff in Jacksonville in over 100 years, and has been the president of Edward Waters College for five years. He also provided $250,000 to create a scholarship fund for deserving low-income students in the Jacksonville community.

“Nat Glover is very deserving of the Great Floridian award, and I am proud to recognize his many years of service today,” said Scott. Nat is committed to making sure Florida students have the opportunity to achieve their dreams. We are also thankful for his more than 50 years in law enforcement and keeping the families in Jacksonville safe.”

Nat Glover said, “I am honored to receive the Great Floridian award from Gov. Rick Scott today. I have dedicated many years of my life and career to providing opportunities for Florida’s students to succeed and attend college. I hope my life inspires others to invest in their communities and support our state’s young people.”
