This evening, Democratic Congressman Ted Deutch will receive the inaugural Climate Leadership Award from the Citizens’ Climate Lobby for his “extraordinary leadership and bold commitment to environmental stewardship.” Republican Congressman Carlos Curbelo, a co-founder of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, will also receive the award.
“I’m honored to receive this award from the Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a group that understands it will take Democrats and Republicans working together to achieve meaningful action on climate solutions,” said Congressman Deutch. “I’m optimistic for what we can achieve in this caucus, the first bipartisan dialogue on climate solutions in our history. Together, Congressman Curbelo and I are seeking the common ground that will change the climate conversation in Washington. For too long that conversation has stopped before it ever started. But stopping climate change is not about politics; it’s about survival.”
Founded and led by Reps. Deutch and Curbelo, the historic bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus is currently comprised of eight Democrats and eight Republicans. The caucus offers opportunities for members to engage with stakeholders directly impacted by climate change, including local government officials and the private sector, and explore responses to the growing threats.
The Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a non-partisan nonprofit organization which advocates for governmental policies to address climate change.
