Last week at this time, State Rep. David Santiago was one of many Republicans vying for the nomination in Florida’s 6th Congressional District.

This week? Rep. Santiago is out of the United States House of Representatives race and entering a race for re-election in his district,  which was made just a little easier Friday after his last Republican opponent, Zenaida Denizac, announced her withdrawal from the contest and the endorsement of the incumbent.

“Running for the Florida House has been a wonderful experience, and I feel privileged to have met so many great people,” said Denizac. “I know my friend David Santiago will continue to do a great job for our area in Tallahassee. I look forward to working with him for the betterment of our community.”

Zenaida Denizac previously served on the Deltona City Commission, and served as the city’s vice mayor before an unsuccessful run for mayor in 2015.

Santiago will face competition in November.

Democrat Robert Mann and NPA candidate Randi Doan have both qualified for the ballot.
