Peters was formerly mayor of South Pasadena and has served in the Florida House since 2012. She serves on the Economic Affairs Committee, Justice Appropriations, Transportation & Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee, Transportation and Ports Subcommittee, and as vice chair of the Children, Families & Seniors Subcommittee.

Webb, director of community engagement at the University of South Florida, is making her first run for public office. Webb says she’s running to represent the interests of working-class families, to champion economic growth that is equitable and fair, to fund quality public education, and to promote environmental policies that will protect the county’s greatest assets.

Webb also has scheduled her first fundraiser for 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 20 at Pia’s Trattoria, 3054 Beach Blvd. S., Gulfport.

Thus far, Webb is trailing Peters in fundraising.
