Report: Al Lawson to serve as regional whip

Lawson

The Tallahassee Democrat reported Saturday that Rep. Al Lawson of Florida’s Congressional District 5 will serve as regional whip in the upcoming Congress.

Lawson’s position entails ensuring that Democrats from Georgia and Florida vote along party lines.

House Democratic Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer asserts that Lawson “will perform crucial first-run responsibilities, and work to build consensus among House Democrats on legislation that will come to the floor for a vote.”

In a statement from his own office, Lawson said that Congress “has a long to-do list ahead of it when it reconvenes in January for the 115th Congress; I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work to help improve our economy, and create more well-paying jobs, and defend hard-working families in Florida’s 5th Congressional District.”
