For safety reasons, Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine is declaring a curfew for Tuesday night, beginning 11 p.m. through 7 a.m.

“The curfew is mandatory and will be strictly enforced by Miami Beach Police Department,” Levine announced in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Residents to the city could return to their homes Tuesday morning, following a shutdown Sunday night to allow city crews to remove the debris that clogged main streets in the city.

Levine’s order includes a ban on any selling or distribution of alcohol, “and will be strictly endorsed.”

Miami Beach and other cities in South Florida called for a curfew over the weekend as the storm was on the verge of hitting the region.

As in virtually every other region in the state, Miami Beach is struggling with a lack of power. Levine said Monday that 90 percent of the city’s traffic lights were out.
