Mike Wells announced Monday that Senate Majority Leader Wilton Simpson is endorsing his re-election campaign for the Pasco County Commission.

“Mike Wells is a proven leader who is committed to protecting the values of Pasco County residents,” the Trilby Republican said. “Mike is a compassionate and principled conservative, with a vision of making Pasco County’s future better and brighter.

“I am proud to endorse Mike Wells for Pasco County Commission because I know his enthusiasm, commitment and dedication to moving Pasco County forward.  Please join me as we work together to keep Mike Wells representing us on the Pasco County Commission.”

Wells, a longtime Pasco resident, was elected to the commission in 2014 and currently serves as its vice chairman and is the commission’s representative on a number of area boards, including the Area Agency on Aging, the Department of Juvenile Justice Circuit Advisory Board and the Early Learning Coalition of Pasco and Hernando Counties.

In addition to the elected office, Wells is a member of several area realtor groups, the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce and sits on the board of the YMCA of the Suncoast.

“I am honored to have Senator Wilton Simpson’s endorsement this election. Senator Simpson works tirelessly for Pasco County residents in our state capitol.  As a successful business owner and as an elected official, Senator Simpson has always put others before himself.  He leads by example and well serves our community.  I am grateful for Senator Simpson’s leadership in Tallahassee and am honored to call him my friend,” Wells said.

Wells has earned endorsements for his re-election bid from several Pasco Republicans, including U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, Sheriff Chris Nocco, former House Speaker Will Weatherford and Republican Rep. Danny Burgess.

Wells, who holds the District 4 seat, and fellow Republican Commissioner Mike Moore are up for re-election in 2018. Wells is currently running against Democrat Brandi Geoit.
