Second Democrat plans run for Lori Berman’s House seat

A second Democratic candidate has emerged to try to succeed outgoing Rep. Lori Berman in a Palm Beach County House district.

Lake Worth Democrat David Scharf opened a campaign account Friday to run next year in House District 90, according to the state Division of Elections website. Scharf joined Boynton Beach Democrat Joe Casello, who opened a campaign account in May and had raised $21,460 as of Nov. 30.

Berman had been slated to leave the seat in November 2018 because of term limits, but she is running in a special election to replace former Sen. Jeff Clemens, a Lake Worth Democrat who resigned from the Senate in late October.

The special primary election in Senate District 31 will be held Jan. 30, with the general election on April 10.
