Personnel note: Sarah Bascom joins Team DeSantis

Sarah Bascom

Sarah Bascom, President of Bascom Communications & Consulting, has joined Republican Ron DeSantis‘ gubernatorial campaign.

Bascom, who will join the communications team that has been leading the media efforts for DeSantis, will bring “decades of experience and strategies from notable campaign victories to the effort.”

“We are excited to welcome Sarah and her team at Bascom Communications to the campaign’s communications team, led by Stephen Lawson, and look forward to continuing to move our campaign forward for the future of Florida,” campaign manager Brad Herold said in a statement.

“Ron DeSantis is the only candidate who will continue to grow the economy, protect the environment, and provide a quality education for every student. We look forward to communicating that message with Sarah’s help as we work toward a November victory.”

Bascom has been described by Tampa Bay Times Political Editor Adam Smith as “among the more aggressive and talented (communications) professionals in Tallahassee.”

Also, Bascom was named one of the “Great Communicators” in INFLUENCE Magazine‘s Spring 2017 edition and has been twice listed in the INFLUENCE 100 List as one of the 100 most influential people in Florida politics.

She has served as the communications director for the Florida Senate, under the late Senate President Jim King, and as the press secretary for the Senate Majority Caucus and deputy communications director for the Republican Party of Florida. She also consulted for Richard Corcoran when he was House Speaker-designate.

More recently, she has been outside communications consultant for Senate President-designate Bill Galvano, state Rep. and future House Speaker Chris Sprowls, and outgoing Senate President Joe Negron.

    Prohibitionist Sarah Bascom

Bascom is now on Team DeSantis as part of his communications group. Back in 2014 Bascom worked tightly with Mel Sembler on his “No on 2” campaign calling patients awful names, and stating caregivers were drug dealers. Still think DeSantis supports cannabis?

Here is a taste of what Bascom put out.

“It will be easier to become an Amendment 2 ‘caregiver’ legally empowered to distribute pot than it will be to get a driver’s license,” The “drug dealer loophole,” as Vote No On 2 calls it, means that caregivers don’t need medical training and “can be felons — even drug dealers.”

“This echoes a similar claim by Don’t Let Florida Go to Pot, which argued that caregivers “are not required to have any background checks, training or certifications” to give patients medical marijuana.”

Yes, this is the handiwork of Sarah Bascom working for Team DeSantis. DeSantis and Bascom think we are stupid, have forgotten Bascom’s handiwork in Tallahassee.

Thing is I we the 71% not forget. Vote wisely this November.
