Val Demings gets key post in Democrats’ congressional campaign committee

Val Demings

Orlando’s Democratic U.S. Rep. Val Demings will be playing a key role in her party’s efforts to get more Democrats elected to Congress in 2020.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee appointed Demings to be one of two national co-chairs of that organization’s recruitment committee, which identifies, recruits and promotes Democrats around the country to run for Congress in 2020. Demings herself was once targeted by that committee, leading to her successful 2016 election.

She will co-chair that committee with U.S. Rep. Donald McEachin of Virginia. Both of them have just started their second terms in Congress.

The announcement was made late Wednesday by DCCC Chair Cheri Bustos, the Illinois congresswoman who just succeeded New Mexico’s Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján in leading the Democrats’ campaign committee. She also announced several other DCCC appointments.

“We won this majority by working together, and that’s how we’ll grow it in 2020,” Bustos stated in a news release. “I’m extremely proud to announce Reps. Pete Aguilar, Val Demings, Donald McEachin, Ami BeraSuzan DelBene, and Brad Schneider are stepping up into senior leadership positions at the DCCC so we can lock down and grow our new Democratic Majority. They know what it takes to win tough races, and I am humbled to have their voices at the DCCC’s leadership table. I’m also exceptionally proud to be building a political department with proven leaders like Danny, Kory and Molly who will lead the charge to protect our Democratic House.”
