The Democratic primary for House District 14 got even more interesting Monday, with Donald Gaffney getting into the race. Gaffney’s entry into the race was first reported by the Florida Times-Union. Gaffney, a former Jacksonville Councilman and state legislator, had his legislative career truncated in 1988 when he was convicted of four counts of mail fraud. The […]

Of late, Jacksonville media has been trying to reconcile what seemed to be a pro-HRO expansion position during the 2015 campaign with more muted support by candidates this time around. Councilwoman Katrina Brown was one candidate identified as pro-HRO expansion, according to comments she made to The Florida Times-Union last year, that were given a new […]

On Monday, incumbent Jacksonville Democrat Reggie Fullwood filed for re-election in HD 13. The two-term former City Councilman was elected to the House via Special Election last February, after a pitched primary battle against another former Councilman, Johnny Gaffney. As the only filed candidate in a safe Democratic seat, no such drama should ensue this time around.

The margin wasn’t close: 61 to 39 percent. The issue had been into a so-called “bathroom ordinance,” with opponents somehow reducing […]

During the 2015 Jacksonville campaign, District 7 Councilman Reggie Gaffney was identified by the Florida Family Action PAC as opposing the Human Rights Ordinance applying to LGBT people. Turns out the PAC got it wrong. “On the issue of the HRO Councilman Gaffney believes in equality,” Gaffney posted to his Facebook page on Monday. “The mailer […]

One of the hallmarks of the Lenny Curry administration thus far has been increasing the transparency of the process, which many people both covering City Hall and working inside it thought was necessary. The downside: It makes events like Thursday’s presentation of transition subcommittee reports, the culmination of a process begun shortly after Curry’s election, necessarily […]

As Jacksonville’s City Council wrestles with Mayor Lenny Curry’s first budget, most of what the mayor wants is clear. However, one question I’ve heard from people both in and outside the St. James Building regards more specifics about the Jacksonville Journey budget. The proposed budget is almost $5.1 million, up from a little more than $2 […]
