Rick Scott names 5 to state boards, including former Miami-Dade commissioner

On Monday, Gov. Rick Scott announced the names of five appointments to a variety of regulatory boards. The list includes former Miami-Dade mayoral candidate and County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Cancio to the Miami-Dade County Expressway Authority.

Miami-Dade County Expressway Authority  

Scott announced the appointments of Jose “Pepe” Cancio and Cliff Walters to the Miami-Dade County Expressway Authority. Both appointments are for terms ending April 6, 2018.

Cancio, 75, of Key Biscayne, is a former Miami Dade County commissioner and chief executive officer of North Florida Hauling LLC. He succeeds Carlos Fernandez-Guzman.

Walters, 66, of Miami Shores, is a former member of the Board of Pilot Commissioners and is president of Cliff Walters Consulting LLC. He fills a vacant seat.

Jacksonville Transportation Authority

Next, Scott announced the appointment of Arezou “Ari” Jolly to the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.

Jolly, 53, of Jacksonville, is assistant general counsel for Blue Cross Blue Shield. She currently serves as chair of the Greater Jacksonville USO. Jolly succeeds Donna Harper for a term ending May 31, 2018.

Her appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Polk State College District Board of Trustees

Scott then named Cynthia “Cindy” Ross to the Polk State College District Board of Trustees.

Ross, 55, of Lakeland, is the president of Organization Management LLC. She is a member of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. Ross succeeds Ernest Pinner for a term ending May 31, 2017.

Ross’ appointment is also subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Southwest Florida Water Management District

Finally, Scott announced the reappointment of Randall Maggard to the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

Maggard, 51, of Zephyrhills, is vice president of Sonny’s Discount Appliances Inc. He is a member of the Zephyrhills Economic Development Board and previously was a member of the Coastal River Basin Board. Maggard’s reappointment is for a term ending March 1, 2019.

His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
