MSNBC host Joe Scarborough hinted at a 2018 run for U.S. Senate run on the conservative Hugh Hewitt radio show.

“I want to get back into service, public service, and hopefully I can do it while a Republican’s at the White House,” said Scarborough, a former Republican Florida congressman.

As reported by the Hill, Scarborough says he would not seek to replace Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who will have to vacate his seat if he chooses to run for president. He did mention the possibility of trying for Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson’s seat, which is available in two years.

“In ’18, Bill Nelson’s up,” he told Hewitt, “and I don’t think Bill Nelson will be sticking around, so you know, one of these years, I think, one of these years, if I did something, I’d probably look to run in Florida,”

Scarborough repeated that it was only a possibility.

After three full terms as U.S. Representative, Scarborough resigned in 2001. Since, he has been an MSNBC host, currently co-hosting Morning Joe.

In a survey of Florida U.S. Senate candidates, Public Policy Polling found Scarborough had an approval rating of 65 percent. Scarborough also trails Nelson by 13 points, the best of any Republican candidate in the poll.
