Susannah Randolph has raised $170,000 in her first fundraising quarter as a candidates in Florida’s 9th Congressional District.

Announcing her fundraising numbers Monday morning, Randolph said her 1,150 contributors demonstrates deep, grassroots ties to both District 9 and Central Florida.

According to the campaign, donations averaged $150 apiece.

“Our campaign is truly people-powered and doesn’t have to rely on special interest money from Tallahassee and Washington,” Randolph noted. “I am a congressional candidate responsive to the people — not big corporations.”

Randolph is hoping to replicate the broad fundraising base of the incumbent Alan Grayson, her former boss. Grayson, an Orlando liberal, boasted a base of small donors matched only by a select few Democrats such as President Barack Obama and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Currently, Randolph is embroiled in a high-profile primary also featuring biochemist Dr. Dena Minning (Grayson’s girlfriend), State Sen. Darren Soto, and State Rep. Ricardo RangelWayne Liebnitzsky, so far, is the lone Republican in the race.

The left-leaning 9th District covers parts of Orange, Osceola, and Polk counties.

“I will raise the voices of all Americans, while reducing the influence of Big Money in politics,” she concludes. “I’m proud to say that’s exactly what we did in my first quarter as a congressional candidate.”
