The Senate campaign of U.S. Rep. David Jolly announced Thursday afternoon it has raised $892,875 during the first quarter of his 2016 race, with a mean $658,000 of that in cash on hand.

In a statement released on the occasion of the new fundraising figures, Jolly heralded the haul as a sign of his statewide strength.

“I have said from the start we need a Congress that works, and I’m grateful to those who share this conviction,” said Jolly. ”But it’s not enough to just talk about it. We need conservative leaders who have the courage to make it happen, whatever it takes, whatever sacrifice may be required.

“That’s why I’m in this race, and that’s why I am humbled by the support my campaign for United States Senate continues to receive from Floridians across the state,” said Jolly.

His campaign said the numbers were especially strong for Jolly, “as the last candidate to enter the race three weeks into the third quarter.”

An announcement from the campaign cited polls that show Jolly leading the GOP race for the Senate seat abdicated by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, calling Jolly “the frontrunner in this race,” and noted endorsements from area Republican congressmen.

“Reflecting his strength in the GOP vote-rich Tampa Bay media market, Congressman Jolly has been endorsed by Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL-12), Congressman Richard Nugent (R-FL-11) and Congressman Dennis Ross (R-FL-15),” the campaign missive read.
