Aaron Bean seeks crackdown on noncitizen voters
Sen. Aaron Bean

On Friday, state Sen. Aaron Bean filed a bill pressing Congress to reform voter registration by allowing states to identify noncitizens who may be voting unlawfully, by verifying citizenship during the voter application process.

“It’s monumentally important we maintain the integrity of our voting process, especially as we go into another election year,” Bean said. “It’s outrageous that we currently have no way to verify a voter applicant is a citizen. We don’t permit foreign entities to donate to campaigns, so why are we so lax about letting noncitizens actually vote in our elections? This must end.”

Senate Bill 1415 suggests that Congress authorize states to use the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program to verify voter applicants’ citizenship, as it is used in verifying eligibility for benefits.
