Hillary Clinton is expanding her operation in Florida, and with that comes increased scrutiny from the Republican Party of Florida and the Republican National Committee.
The Clinton campaign opens a new organizing office in Miami Beach at 7 p.m. Monday. It will be the sixth the campaign has opened this month.
“There isn’t a barrier too big for Hillary to tear down — and that’s why we’re organizing Miami-Dade by talking to our friends and neighbors about what’s at stake in this election and for our nation,” said Miami Beach Mayor Phillip Levine in a statement.
According to the Friday Florida POLITICO Playbook, Ambassador Wendy Sherman is expected to attend an invitation-only briefing with donors in Miami earlier in the day Monday. Sherman was Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs.
The state GOP is taking aim at Sherman and time at the State Department in advance of her anticipated visit. During her time in the office, Sherman talked about how Clinton used her Blackberry to negotiate Middle East peace talks. Those emails have since been deemed classified.
According to CNN, the State Department released more than 500 of Clinton’s official emails on Friday. The release came one day before the Nevada caucuses.
With Florida’s presidential primary less than a month away, the RPOF is increasing its campaign against Clinton. Last week it released a web video of Clinton barking as a way to fact check her statement. Earlier this month, the state GOP said her second place finish in New Hampshire showed voters were looking for an alternative to Clinton.
The state’s Democratic primary is March 15.
