Val Demings has received the endorsement of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers in her bid for the Democratic nomination to run for Congress in Orlando-based Congressional District 10.

The union endorsement follows several others she has received, including from a coalition of unions representing Walt Disney World employees.

“It means so much to me to receive the endorsement of a union so diverse in occupation and membership,” Demings said in a campaign statement. “SMART workers provide vital transportation and energy services while upholding a commitment to ongoing technology training and excellence. Representing hundreds of workers from multiple disciplines across Central Florida, I will continue to partner with local unions like SMART to advocate for workers as the next Member of Congress from Florida’s 10th District.”

Demings faces former Florida Democratic Party chairman and businessman Bob Poe, state Sen. Geraldine Thompson, and lawyer Fatima Rita Fahmy in the CD 10 Democratic field.

Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Daniel Webster of Winter Garden has decided to run in Congressional District 11 instead, because last year’s redistricting made the district heavily Democratic. That left the district without a Republican candidate.
