Kim Daniels won’t debate Anna Brosche Monday night

If you were looking forward to seeing Kim Daniels and Anna Brosche in their At Large Group 1 debate on Monday night at the Main Library, sorry. This “last-minute political event,” sponsored by the Board of Library Trustees and League of Women Voters, is not happening. Brosche will be there, debating an empty chair.

Daniels dropped this message on Facebook Monday: “I received a call on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 inviting me to a political debate being hosted at the same time by a consortium of organizations. My campaign informed the representative I would not be able to attend due to a prior commitment made months ago. I will not cancel my commitment to my duties as a council member for a last minute political event.”

Daniels instead “will participate in the ‘Tossing of The Roses’ at the Jacksonville Landing being hosted by The Justice Coalition.” The event is especially close to her heart, she says, because “my church assistant was found dead in the St. Johns River during my first term on the council. His case remains unsolved today. This event is very close and dear to my heart so as we toss the roses, please pray for these hurting families.”

Daniels will have at least one more forum with Brosche: “a televized [SIC] forum with my opponent on Channel 4 news this week. Standby for more details on when it will air. God bless you!”

Brosche’s campaign responded: “Anna looks forward to talking with voters tonight to discuss her positive vision for Jacksonville which includes growing our economy, developing our workforce, keeping our city safe and protecting hard-earned tax dollars.”

The two candidates shared a stage at Tiger Bay on Friday, and Daniels was less than polished and nuanced on a few issues. Daniels’ side declared victory the next day.
