The word in Duval County Republican circles is that Wes White, challenging Angela Corey in her re-election bid for state attorney, is dropping out.
Not so, White told FloridaPolitics.com Thursday.
“I’m in it to win it,” White said over the phone, before following up with text messages.
“To make it absolutely clear, I will be going full throttle until Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. The only reason I am not on the campaign trail is that I’m celebrating my wife’s 50th birthday with family in Gainesville today.”
“And,” White added, “if Florida Politics is interested in any further information from this candidate, they need to have an unbiased reporter, and not you, make the contact.”
White has had an interesting week.
On Monday, he appealed to his opponent, Angela Corey, to initiate a grand jury investigation of the Melissa Nelson campaign, charging that an April conversation with various Jacksonville political notables and Nelson herself was an attempt to intimidate him out of the race.
Among his allegations: Nelson’s team was willing to spend a quarter-million dollars to “destroy” his candidacy and that Nelson, when asked if she would burn down his house to become state attorney, would do “whatever it takes.”
White contends the meeting with Nelson’s campaign possibly met the threshold of deprivation of voting rights, of voter intimidation or suppression, and/or of false and malicious statements about another candidate.
White’s posture is interesting, in light of the denials of his account of the meeting by everyone else on hand, with non-aligned people like Susie Wiles and Mike Weinstein questioning his veracity.
Meanwhile, the most recent public poll of the race shows White trailing Nelson by 42 points, a number considerably outside the poll’s margin of error.

Without a doubt, either challenger would be better than Corey. The priority for both must be to defeat her. Nelson has better organization, more money, and therefore, the best chance to win. Mr. White should make the difficult decision to step aside for the good of northeast Florida and its criminal justice system.

Oh Wes…you are such an entertaining man. But, please drop out. And take Ugly Angie with you, please. Because at this juncture, you’ve become a distraction and you’re starting to really embarrass yourself.
Voters want Corey replaced. Her, her tired, drabby garments, her overly made up, unattractive face, and her hideously incompetent “leadership”. Voters don’t want you paving a path for someone who clearly needs to be unemployed.
