Rick Scott to visit Tampa ahead of storm

As Tropical Depression 9 churns toward the Sunshine State, Gov. Rick Scott plans to visit Tampa’s Emergency Operations Center.

There, he’ll be “briefed on the storm’s potential impacts to the area,” a news release said.

His revised daily schedule shows him at the East Hanna Avenue location at 5 p.m.

It could strengthen to a named tropical storm by later today, either Hermine or Ian.

The National Hurricane Center has the storm track going through the Tampa Bay area, the Nature Coast along the Gulf and the Big Bend in the next 48 hours, according to the Governor’s Office.

“The system will have the potential to produce widespread coastal and inland flooding, storm surge and gusty winds along the Florida Gulf Coast,” the release said.
