UF votes to keep Duke Energy as campus electricity provider
Duke Energy Florida is proposing energy rate decreases in the Sunshine State.

Duke Energy will continue to supply electricity for the University of Florida.

The University of Florida board of trustees voted Thursday to keep Duke Energy as the provider of both electricity and steam to UF’s main campus in Gainesville. The new agreement should be ratified and signed by the end of the year.

Since 1992, Duke has owned and operated a co-generation plant on the UF campus. When the most recent contract expired in December 2014, Gainesville Regional Utilities submitted a proposal to become the school’s energy provider.

The Gainesville Sun reports that the GRU application never gained much traction, since there has been a long-standing arrangement between Duke Energy and UF, approved by the Florida Public Service Commission, in addition to Duke’s existing infrastructure on the campus.

Good article. Too bad you don’t know what The University of Florida looks like. That is a nice photograph of FSU.
