Notorious Jacksonville nightclub may meet the wrecking ball
Lenny Curry's Build Something That Lasts PAC is always interesting to watch.

A space in Jacksonville’s Murray Hill neighborhood once notorious for hip hop parties and the occasional shoot ’em up may meet its end by city demolition soon.

The “Fat Kat Lounge” at 1187 Edgewood Ave. closed operations in March 2014, after five people were shot inside the month before.

A woman associated with the neighboring Jones College described the current decrepitude in an email to Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry.

“There are trash cans with pooling water in the back of this nasty property,” she said. “With the scare of Zika someone needs to empty the trash cans. … There is lumber with nails sticking up, homeless people sleeping in the grass and no doubt doing other unlawful things. We (Jones College) that is right next door demand something be done with this blight in the Murray Hill area. Please help with at least the trash cans full of water. We do not want our students subject to a mosquito infestation,” she wrote.

Curry advised Bryan Mosier, the chief of Municipal Code Compliance Division, to follow up.

And he did.

“MCCD cited the property as an unsafe structure on 9/16/2016 and is scheduled to re-inspect the property again on 10/24/2016. If the property remains in violation at that time, we will start the case on track for eventual demolition,” Mosier wrote.

Before the spot was a hip hop hangout, it had previous incarnations, including being a goth/alternative hangout space in the 1980s, and an after-hours rave club in the 1990s.

The building and property is in the process of being redeveloped and will absolutely be deemed a safe structure on October 24th and have already had interest from potential tenants but would definitely like to have multiple, good, neighborhood tenants split up the over 12,000 SF in a prime location so please feel free to call me at (904) 318-5144 if you would like more information about the property.

I’m glad that you deleted my last post A.G., because it actually, now, is old news. 1187 is no longer condemned and we are in the process of redeveloping the best location on Edgewood Ave. S. and are in the working to begin leasing very soon. So if any business owners are interested in the location please call me at (904) 318-5144
