Anna Eskamani event draws 200, raises $10,000 in HD 47 race

Anna Eskamani

Democratic Florida House candidate Anna Eskamani‘s fundraiser drew more than 200 people and raised more than $10,000 Tuesday night, her campaign announced Wednesday.

Eskamani is running in House District 47, a swing district covering Winter Park and north and central Orlando and Orange County.

She and Republican Stockton Reeves, a Winter Park businessman and longtime party operative and fundraiser, seek to replace Republican state Rep. Mike Miller, who is running for Congress instead of reelection.

Eskamani’s campaign kickoff event was held at The Abbey in downtown Orlando. The often defiant progressive activist and Planned Parenthood official sounded so in comments.

“Last night’s event was more than just a reception. It was a reflection of our united resilience and of our united resistance. An act of defiance in the face of dangerous policies, disingenuous politicians, and painful violence. A message to the world that says: now is our time,” Eskamani said in statement released by her campaign.

She also made a pitch to Republicans, recounting a recent conversation she had with two Trump supporters, “I want you to know that I’m a Democrat you can work with and I have a track record of that too. And though we won’t always agree on every issue, you will still find a trusted listener and advocate with me.”
