Wilton Simpson committee hauls in cash in June

A political committee led by Senate Majority Leader Wilton Simpson of Trilby raised more than $550,000 during the first three weeks of June, according to a new finance report.

The Jobs for Florida committee collected $553,500 from June 1 through June 22, including $250,000 from a PAC led by Coral Gables billionaire Mike Fernandez, the chairman and chief executive of MBF Healthcare Partners. Fernandez’s committee is known as Diversity … The Key to American Dream PAC.

Simpson’s committee also received $100,000 from Tampa-based Dex Imaging, Inc., and $50,000 from the Florida Manufactured Housing Association, the report shows.

Simpson is slated to become Senate President after the 2020 elections if Republicans retain control of the Senate.

During the first three weeks of June, his committee also spent $370,053, with $275,000 of that amount going to the Florida Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, which backs GOP Senate candidates.

Jobs for Florida had about $2.6 million in cash on hand as of June 22.
