David Coburn, who became chief of staff at Florida State University after a long career as a top legislative staff member, will serve as the university’s interim athletics director, FSU President John Thrasher said Wednesday.
The move comes after Athletics Director Stan Wilcox announced this week he will leave the university to take a position with the NCAA.
Coburn will serve as interim athletics director while the university conducts a search for Wilcox’s replacement.
Among Coburn’s previous positions in the Legislature were chief of staff under two House speakers and a Senate president and director of planning and budgeting for the late Gov. Lawton Chiles.
