Pasco Tax Collector Mike Fasano collects $11K for animal shelter

Pasco County Tax Collector Mike Fasano announced Wednesday that his office collected $11,154 last month for Pasco Friends of Animal Services, an organization that helps improve the likelihood of adoption for shelter animals.

“On behalf of our staff please accept our heartiest of thanks for the generosity of our community,” Fasano said. “The funds that were collected during the month of November will go a long way toward not only providing what could be lifesaving medical care for the shelter animals, it will be used to prepare the animals for potential adoption into a forever home.”

The campaign was one of several charitable undertakings Fasano’s office has announced during the holiday season. Last month, the tax collector’s office said it was sponsoring events for a handful of charitable organizations including the Marine Corps League’s Toys 4 Tots program, the Salvation Army and the Volunteer Way/Farm Share Program,

The Pasco Friends campaign was aimed at building up the non-profit’s medical fund, “which will help enhance the health, welfare and environment of sheltered animals.”

“We are humbled by the level of support the residents of Pasco County have continued to provide to help all of the unfortunate animals that find themselves abandoned, lost and scared in care of Pasco County Animal Services,” said Michael Cox, adviser to the Pasco Friends board of directors. “On behalf of the voiceless animals, thank you!”

Pasco Friends says the cash will help them “be able to provide the shelter with the life-saving operations and medical treatments that would otherwise not be possible.”

In addition to funding medical services, Pasco Friends of Animal Services helps shelter staff to get pets adopted, promotes spaying and neutering, and fosters “public interest in and support for the Pasco County Animal Shelter and its services.”
