Sen. Rick Scott co-sponsored a bill last week that sets out to provide more education options to military families.

The Education Savings Accounts for Military Families Act of 2019 was first introduced in March by sponsor Sen. Ben Sasse, a Nebraska Republican. Sens. Tom Cotton and Tim Scott, Republicans from Arizona and South Carolina respectively, are co-sponsors.

The act seeks to establish an Education Savings Account for military families to use, as needed, to expand their school choices. Since it’s introduction on March 7, it picked up two more cosponsors, both Republicans, Sen. Martha Blackburn of Tennessee and Scott.

Scott said, “During my time as Governor of Florida, we worked hard to support our military members, veterans and their families both during and after their service. That included securing funding and legislation to help veterans get a great education, find jobs and open their own businesses. The Education Savings Accounts for Military Families Act builds on our efforts to help make Florida the most military and veteran-friendly state in the country – and provides military families the flexibility to choose which educational opportunities are the best fit for their family.”

The announcement comes at a time that childcare costs are reaching new highs for average Americans.
