The Minnesota Senator will visit the facility Wednesday afternoon.

Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar will visit the migrant detention center in Homestead Wednesday afternoon.

Klobuchar’s campaign said the visit was inspired by recent reports on the “harsh and inhumane conditions at government facilities.”

The Minnesota Senator’s visit, scheduled for 2:30 p.m., comes on the same day she is scheduled to take the stage for the first Democratic debate of the 2020 cycle, hosted in Miami.

She is one of 10 candidates who will debate Wednesday. Another 10 candidates will debate on Thursday.

Klobuchar isn’t the only candidate planning a trip to the facility.

Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Tuesday that she would head to the detention center.

California U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell made the trip Monday and former Texas U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke plans to do so on Thursday.

There are up to 1,000 migrant children being held in the Homestead detention center, the largest facility of its kind nationwide.

Attorneys who have interviewed the detained children, who are aged 13 to 17, have said they are “extremely traumatized.”

According to federal court filings by attorneys who have been inside the facility, the teens are packed into crowded rooms.

One account said as many as 144 boys are being held in a room described as a converted aircraft hanger.
