Marie Woodson leads June fundraising in HD 101, still trails Brian Johnson overall
For the third straight month, Marie Woodson has led fundraising in her HD 101 campaign.

Woodson's June numbers bring her to more than $25,000 raised.

After trailing West Park Vice Mayor Brian Johnson in fundraising for two straight months, Democratic candidate Marie Woodson was able to take the lead in the month of June, earning more than $10,000.

Still, Woodson has pulled in only about half of what Johnson has earned throughout the campaign.

Woodson’s June numbers bring her to more than $25,000 raised since filing her paperwork with the Division of Elections in early March. She has spent less than $600 of that so far.

Johnson managed to raise $6,000 in June, bringing his campaign total to nearly $48,000 raised. That’s following back-to-back months bringing in more than $20,000. His May total was aided, however, by a $2,500 self-loan.

“After kicking off our campaign for Florida House District 101 in April, we jumped out of the gate and never looked back. We know that this campaign is going to be a marathon and not a sprint, but what will not change is the support that we continue to receive from everyday people from all corners of this district,” Johnson said.

“Although there is much work still yet to be done, we will not rest until we are able to adequately advocate for our teachers, our health care, our environment, a woman’s right to choose her own reproductive health choices, and most importantly, the working people of the great state of Florida.”

Johnson has spent just under $5,000 so far. He has also earned the endorsement of outgoing Rep. Shevrin Jones, who is term-limited in 2020.

HD 101 covers portions of Broward County including West Park, Pembroke Park, and Hallandale Beach.

The remaining two candidates in the race, both Democrats as well, showed $0 raised in June.

Ashira Mohammed had earned more than $9,000 combined the previous two months. Jonathan Gilbert Flores, meanwhile, has not declared any money raised since entering the contest in late March.
