Straw poll results: Democratic activists support U.S. Senators for President
These two Senators took more than half the support in a recent activist straw poll.

Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris
Good news for Sens. Harris, Warren, and Sanders.

Straw poll results from the left-leaning New Florida Majority show the vast majority of Presidential support among their ranks goes to one of three U.S. Senators.

Massachusetts’ Elizabeth Warren (28 percent), California’s Kamala Harris (25 percent) and Vermont independent Bernie Sanders (16 percent) were the top three choices in an online survey.

Between June 28 and July 12, 512 responses were collected from the group, which has majorities both of women and people of color.

There was demographic good news for each of the three top choices.

Warren was the pick of 31 percent of women.

Harris was the preference of 31 percent of Black voters.

And Sanders, though lagging significantly behind Harris and Warren in the aggregate, was the preference of 28 percent of Latinx voters.

Dwight Bullard, Political Director of the New Florida Majority, said the “results tell us that women and people of color are ready to elect candidates with a bolder vision of the country.”

“Women candidates continue to overperform among communities of color, especially our Black community,” Bullard added, without elaborating further on what he meant by overperforming.

“Our survey shows that the democratic nomination is open game right now. The person who wins support will be the one who provides the most progressive solutions with the clearest connections to our communities,” said Andrea Mercado, Executive Director of the New Florida Majority.

“It was refreshing to see that the Latinxs in our base are far more progressive than what many think and actually lean towards candidates with bold platforms,” Mercado added.

Public polls have shown former Veep Joe Biden with strong leads among likely voters; however, the activist wing wants someone else.

The “activist” wing of the party is NOT large enough to swing very many votes to the three candidates listed.
