Mike Pence, Ivanka Trump to highlight criminal justice, job training in Jacksonville

Mike Pence
The VP loves the friendly Jacksonville press.

For the third time in just a few months, Vice President Mike Pence is headed back to Jacksonville.

This time, he’s bringing the “First Daughter,” Ivanka Trump. This will be Ms. Trump’s first visit to Jacksonville in such a high-profile capacity.

The President’s Daughter and his Veep will be in Jacksonville Friday, hitting two stops, Pence announced on Twitter Wednesday, continuing a trend of swing state campaign stop/fundraiser joint appearances.

The first stop: Operation New Hope for a “roundtable discussion with clients.” Operation New Hope helps reformed felons begin a new life with job training. The non-profit has already been visited by a member of the Donald Trump Administration: HUD Sec. Ben Carson.

From there, they go to Miller Electric, where they will “highlight private sector engagement in expanding workforce development and apprenticeship opportunities for all Americans – a key component of the Trump Administration’s ‘Pledge to America’s Workers’.”

Pence has been a familiar presence in Jacksonville, where the media is less combative than some other Florida markets.

In May, Pence, appearing under the auspices of America First Policies, was in Duval for the event “USMCA: A Better Deal for American Workers.”

The Jacksonville stop was the first on a 26 city tour of battleground states promoting the NAFTA replacement.

Pence has been deployed to Jacksonville both as a candidate and an officeholder over the years.

In 2016, Pence addressed a crowd at First Baptist Church, on a day when the pews were not at full capacity.

Pence returned in 2017 to push policy, calling for repeal and replace of “the Obamacare nightmare.”

Pence was in town ahead of the 2018 election for Gov. Ron DeSantis.

More recently, Pence was in Jacksonville for a fundraiser.

The March 28 event featured a number of high-profile Republicans, including U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and RNC Co-Chair Tommy Hicks Jr. Trump Victory finance chairman Todd Ricketts was also listed on the invite.
