Paul Renner continues strong fundraising in August

Renner is set to become House Speaker in 2022-24.

Rep. Paul Renner, a Palm Coast Republican and future House Speaker, raised $200,000 in August, when you account for both his political committees (PCs) and his campaign account, the latest campaign finance records show.

Most of the action was in Renner’s Conservatives for Principled Leadership PC, which brought in over $147,000 from 33 contributions.

The biggest donation ($25,000) came from the Floridians United for Our Children’s Future PC, which is associated with Associated Industries of Florida.

Florida Prosperity Fund, another committee linked to AIF, contributed another $10,000.

Health care interests, including but not limited to political action committees for optometrists and dentists, also anted up big for Renner.

Conservatives for Principled Leadership, as of the end of August, has over $785,000 on hand. Renner’s other PC, Florida Foundation for Liberty, brought in $26,000. The Florida Medical Association PAC and Uber combined for $25,000 of that sum.

Florida Foundation for Liberty closed August with a quarter-million dollars on hand.

Renner is on track to be House Speaker in 2022-24, assuming the GOP holds control of that chamber, but he still faces a general election challenge in 2020 in House District 24.

Perennially candidate Adam Morley, who has previously lost by double digits to Renner, will be his Democratic opponent.

Renner’s campaign account saw its biggest fundraising of the cycle: $28,400 was raised via 36 contributions.

Health care industry interests featured heavily in the August donor list, as did regional Chamber of Commerce political committees.

Renner has roughly $58,000 in hard money, pushing him well over a million dollars in on-hand total.

Morley, in his second month as a filed candidate, has yet to fundraise.

State political candidates and committees face a Tuesday deadline for filing reports showing finance activity through Aug. 31.
