Republican former state Rep. Jason Brodeur‘s campaign to be elected to the Florida Senate in Senate District 9 has drawn the backing of statewide police and firefighter unions.
Brodeur’s campaign announced he has received the endorsements from the Florida Professional Firefighters, which represents 26,000 firefighters and emergency medical service personnel across Florida, based on his past record in the Florida House of Representatives, where he served from 2013-17.
Then, this week, the Florida Police Benevolent Association, which represents 30,000 law enforcement officers across the state, announced its endorsement.
Brodeur is running in SD 9, which covers Seminole County and part of southern Volusia County. He has drawn three Democratic opponents: Rick Ashby of Oviedo, H. Alexander Duncan of Geneva, and Alexis Carter of Apopka. They are running for a seat that is opening up because Republican state Sen. David Simmons is term-limited.
The firefighters’ union’s endorsement letter read, “We believe that you will honorably serve the citizens of Florida, and the interests of the men and women employed in the Fire and Emergency Medical Services, who have made the protection of life and property their life’s work.”
In an announcement of its endorsement, the Florida PBA stated, “We proudly endorse Jason Brodeur for the Florida Senate. He has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the men and women of law enforcement and corrections. We know he has our back.”
Brodeur is president and chief executive officer of the Seminole County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“Having the support of the people on the front lines of keeping us safe is important to me,” Brodeur says. “This endorsement showcases that our support is coming from all types of organizations and people and truly crosses party lines.”
