Republican state Rep. Travis Hutson received new endorsements today from two local leaders, who are also military veterans, in his bid for Senate District 6.

Former St. Johns County Commission chair Mark Miner and former Commissioner Ray Quinn, each announced their support of Hutson in a statement released Friday.

Hutson, who currently serves House District 24 for Flagler and parts of St. Johns and Volusia Counties, entered the District 6 race in November after John Thrasher resigned to become president of Florida State University.

“I am proud to endorse Travis Hutson in his bid for Senate District 6,” said Miner, a member of the Florida Army National Guard, and two-time veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. “I believe he is the Republican we need defending our rights up in Tallahassee; he is focused on economic growth, lowering taxes and creating more jobs in Northeast Florida, which is exactly what we need for our community to thrive.”

“Travis Hutson is the real conservative our district needs,” said Quinn, a Sergeant Major who is also vice chair of the Veterans Council of St. Johns County.  “He has done an excellent job representing us in the Florida House, and I look forward to supporting him as he looks to be elected to the Florida Senate. He is an active member of our community and I know he will work hard on behalf of our region’s veterans.”

Hutson thanked the two veterans for their support, adding that they have shown “tremendous dedication” to defending core American values.  If elected to the Florida Senate, he pledged to “fight for the values that make America the nation we know and love in the Florida Senate.”

Since announcing his candidacy, Hutson received endorsements from a number of state and local officials, including Agriculture Commissioner of Adam Putnam, former St. Johns County Rep. Bill Proctor, State Attorney R.J. Larizza, Sheriffs David Shoar and Ben Johnson, St. Johns County Tax Collector Dennis Hollingsworth and Flagler County Clerk of Court Gail Wadsworth.

Hutson faces Dennis McDonald and state Rep. Ronald “Doc” Renuart in the District 6 special GOP primary on Jan. 27. The winner faces Democrat David Cox in the special general election on April 7. District 6 includes Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns Counties, as well as part of Volusia County.
