Lobbying firm Meenan PA earned as much as $100,000 in lobbying fees in the third quarter, new compensation reports show.

Founder Tim Meenan and lobbyists Karl Rasmussen, Joy Ryan and Alan Williams represented nearly three-dozen clients for the quarter, pulling in an estimated $40,000 in legislative lobbying fees and another $50,000 lobbying the Governor and Cabinet.

Florida lobbyists report their pay in ranges covering $10,000 increments. Florida Politics uses the middle number of each range to estimate quarterly pay.

Tim Meenan’s pre-lobbying career included overseeing the Florida Department of Insurance, including the Division of Risk Management. As such, his firm is a go-to shop for many of the biggest names in insurance.

Legislative lobbying clientele included America’s Health Insurance Plans, the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association, the Florida Service Agreement Association, the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors and Nationwide Insurance.

Another on the list was the Florida Fire Sprinkler Association, which has spent the past few Legislative Sessions trying to close loopholes that have allowed some South Florida condo buildings to delay installing fire sprinklers.

Those clients and more each paid $5,000 apiece in legislative lobbying fees for the July through September reporting period.

The same principals, plus about a dozen others were listed on Meenan’s executive branch report, will all paid contracts showing up at the $5,000 level.

Others on the roster included American Family Life Assurance Company, Discount Tire, Ecosystem Investment Partners, the Florida Insurance Council, the Florida Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association and MetLife.

Meenan, recognized as one of the “Best Companies to Work for in Florida” by Florida Trend, also listed ranges for their overall pay last quarter. The sheets show up to $50,000 in legislative lobbying pay and up to $50,000 more in executive branch lobbying pay.

The figures represent only a small backslide from the second quarter, when compensation reports showed an estimated $135,000 in pay.

Florida lobbyists and lobbying firms faced a Nov. 14 deadline to file compensation reports for the period covering July 1 through Sept. 30. Compensation reports for the fourth quarter of 2020 are due to the state in mid-February.
