U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy announced endorsements Thursday from two Florida mayors in his bid for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.
As already reported in Florida Politics, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman came out in support of Murphy, a fellow Democrat who represents the Treasure Coast in Florida’s 18th Congressional District. The other endorsement is from West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio.
“I know that he will be an outstanding United States Senator, and serve the people well,” Kriseman said.
In a prepared statement, Muoio pointed to Murphy’s values and principles, calling them “the kind of qualities” Florida deserves.
“He is a fierce defender of our rights and an effective, balanced leader who knows how to work with others to ensure our state’s success,” she said.
The two municipal leaders join a growing list of Murphy supporters from across the state, including U.S. Reps. Alcee Hastings, Ted Deutch, Lois Frankel and Frederica Wilson, and former Gov. Charlie Crist, former Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, and 25 members of the Florida Legislature.
