In Jacksonville, the big news from the Lenny Curry administration on Tuesday was the reappointment of a familiar quantity: Emergency Preparedness Chief Steven Woodward.
Woodward, a former FEMA deputy administrator, was first appointed in 2013.
“Public safety is a top priority and being prepared for an emergency plays a big part in keeping our city safe,” Curry in a prepared statement. “Steven’s great leadership and expertise in the Emergency Preparedness Division has greatly contributed to Jacksonville’s excellent reputation as a leader in emergency response.”
A steady hand in emergency preparation is a boon to a Florida city, especially during hurricane season.
Woodward, before taking over the Emergency Preparedness post under a previous administration, had the aforementioned FEMA stint, and a Secret Service stint as well. Woodward was also involved in emergency management for Super Bowl XXXVI, the 56th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the 54th presidential inaugural, according to the release.
The smart money will expect to see a number of similar reappointments announced in the next few days.
