The Florida Democratic Party has hired a rapid response director to focus on the Republicans in this year’s U.S. Senate race.
Lauren Cross, who formerly worked for Planned Parenthood in Washington, D.C., and for the Obama campaign in Colorado in 2012, was hired several weeks ago, said Max Steele, a spokesman for the party. The hiring was first reported by POLITICO Florida.
Steele said Cross will concentrate on U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and Manatee County developer Carlos Beruff as they head to their Aug. 30 primary and then continue to focus on the GOP nominee in the general election.
Cross worked as a field organizer at her alma mater, the University of Colorado, in Obama’s 2012 campaign. She spent the last two years as a media specialist at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America in Washington.
She also has nearly four years of experience doing comedy, including stand-up, with an improv theater group that toured nationally, according to her LinkedIn profile.
