Ritch Workman calls for Debbie Mayfield to resign over residency

Ritch Workman is calling on his Senate District 17 opponent to immediately resign her House seat.

The reason? Debbie Mayfield appears to live outside of her district.

According to bio box in Florida Today, Mayfield told the newspaper she moved to Brevard County in 2015. She listed her hometown as Rockledge.

Mayfield was re-elected to House District 54 in 2014. The district encompasses all of Indian River and part of St. Lucie counties. No part of Brevard County, which is to the north of Indian River County, is located in House District 54.

“This is stunning because Mayfield has been collecting a monthly paycheck to represent a district where she no longer lives,” said Workman in a statement. “The people of Indian River and St. Lucie counties deserve a representative who actually lives in the district, not someone who abandoned them for personal gain.”

Florida House rules require a member to be a legal resident of his or her district “at the time of the election.” The rules state a representative “shall maintain his or her legal residence within that district for the duration of his or her term in office.”

This isn’t the first time a candidate’s residency has been called into question this election cycle. Earlier this month, Jeff Clemens blasted Irv Slosberg over his recent move. Slosberg moved to eastern Boynton Beach, which is in Senate District 31, from Boca Raton, which isn’t.

Workman and Mayfield are both running in Senate District 17, which includes Brevard and Indian River counties. The race has become one to watch, and outside groups are pouring thousands of dollars into the Aug. 30 primary.

This is appalling, you don’t even need to live in that county for a minimum of a year! Another real concern, there is no education requirements for this position. So a high school degree person can “try” and resolve that communities issues.

    Something is very wrong!
Last a component can just spend what ever money they choose to buy the campaign?

Something is not right here. I reside in Brevard county for over 30 years and this is very disturbing to me as a resident and voter in my community..

I would prefer my response to be anonymous, but will give you my name.

Thank-you for looking at a citizens concern.
    Thank you

This is outrageous to have a person reside for less than a year to represent Brevard County. Even more deceiptful she is taking a paycheck for the counties she is suppose to represent. As a tax payer, this is such a disgrace!

Secondly, she has just a high school degree, that is inefficient to run for this role.
Last where is all the funds coming from for all her campaign signs, shirts, water bottles, pens etc. etc.

This is outrageous, our tax dollars being used this way. It appears her interests were not toward the county she was responsible fo. Where did that paycheck go? She has apparently resdided in Rockledge sinc October 20015. So she now has two homes to cover her deceitful way?
How about education, nothing more than a high school degree?she comments about different votes when she was not even at them half the time
Her connection to Brevard county is zero, but she is going to represent us?.

Tell the public where your funds are coming from, since redistricting no outside fund should be used.
Remember Rich Workman has been in our community for over 30 years, knows its issues and loves his Brevard County.
