Libertarian Alison Foxall announces HD 72 bid

ALISON-FOXALL-D72-STATE-HOUSE

Libertarian Alison Foxall announced Monday that she would run for House District 72, which opened up after freshman Rep. Alex Miller unexpectedly resigned last week.

“I am stepping up to represent the district that I’ve lived in for 25 years and will carry our constituents’ voices to Tallahassee with me. I’m ready to earn my neighbors’ vote so that I can cut wasteful spending, eliminate unnecessary barriers to entry for many industries, and cut individuals’ tax burden here in Florida,” Foxall said.

Foxall is an alumna of the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, where she earned a degree in Mass Communications. She is also a graduate of Booker High School in Sarasota.

Gov. Rick Scott has not set a special election for HD 72 yet, and Foxall follows Republican James Buchanan, son of U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, in announcing her candidacy.

The Sarasota County seat has a Republican lean, and whoever ends up winning the GOP primary for the seat will have a significant advantage in the election.

Miller went up against one of the best funded Democrats in 2016, Edward James III, and ended beating him with 58 percent of the vote on Election Day.

Last week, Miller announced she was stepping down from her seat in order to spend more time with her family and look after her business.

“As a mother with two teenage boys who is the CEO of a rapidly growing business, I have come to the conclusion that I must spend more time at home than my service in the Legislature would allow,” she wrote in her resignation letter.

Thanks for covering Alison’s run. I’m probably the person who pestered her most to run, but I don’t even live in her district (I’m about a mile away). Doesn’t matter, she’s probably the best State House candidate the LPF has ever run (and I once ran, long ago…). She’s very logical & rational — a true leader who gets things accomplished.

Alison’s work “behind the scenes” for us has been vital. She’ll be great for the state of Florida because I know she’s going to give us that same hard work & dedication, and she truly cares about people.

Very excited that Alison is stepping up to the plate to run for the citizens of Sarasota following the sudden resignation of Alex Miller.

Good to get someone, like Foxall, who actually lives in the district and isn’t some legacy candidate. Someone who’ll listen to her constituents and not be a cog of a political party machine.

It is great to see Libertarian Alison Foxall announce her run for House District 72. Ms. Foxall’s emphasis on fiscal responsibility, economic freedom and individual liberty will resonate well with Sarasota area voters. Ms. Foxall will be an honest, friendly, ethical, hard-working representative of the people.
