Republican state Rep. Travis Hutson adds two local officials to his growing roster of supporters in the special election for John Thrasher’s vacant Senate District 6 seat.
Following endorsements from State Attorney R.J. Larizza and Sheriffs David Shoar and Ben Johnson, Hutson announced today the support of St. Johns County Tax Collector Dennis Hollingsworth and Flagler County Clerk of Court Gail Wadsworth.
Hutson, who currently serves House District 24 covering Flagler and parts of St. Johns and Volusia Counties, entered the Senate District 6 race last month after Thrasher resigned to become president of Florida State University. District 6 includes St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam and part of Volusia Counties.
“Travis has already gone above and beyond in demonstrating his commitment to Flagler County,” Wadsworth said in a statement. “I have no doubt that Travis will serve Flagler County with distinction, and I am proud to support him in his bid for Florida Senate.”
“Travis is focused on doing what is best for Northeast Florida,” Hollingsworth added. “I am truly honored to give my endorsement … as I believe he is the best candidate to efficiently and effectively serve our First Coast community in the Florida Senate.”
Hutson responded to the announcement by saying he was “humbled” with the Wadsworth and Hollingsworth endorsements.
“As exemplary public servants,” he said, “both have diligently served our community over the years, and I cannot thank them enough for their support of my campaign for Senate District 6.”
Hutson faces Dennis McDonald and state Rep. Ronald “Doc” Renuart in the District 6 special GOP primary on Jan. 27. The winner faces Democrat David Cox in the special general election on April 7.
