Candidate Mike Davis took a fundraising lead in the month of December over fellow Republican Cyndi Stevenson for the House District 17 special elections.
From December 1 – 31, Davis, a St. Augustine small business owner, took in $35,480, edging out Stephenson, the St. Johns County Commissioner, who raised $30,560, according to the state Division of Elections website. Stevenson also took in $2,196 of in-kind contributions during the same period.
Davis has an overall campaign cash lead with $83,380 through Jan. 1, compared to $79,637 for Stevenson. However, when including the $25,000 in loans to her campaign back in November and $26,700 in total expenditures, Stevenson has an advantage in on-hand cash, with just over $79,500.
In comparison, Davis loaned his campaign $22,000 in October and has spent more than $43,000 on his campaign so far, leaving him with $62,400 in his war chest.
As for the remaining field, Republican John R. “Jack” Capra collected $9,300 in the month-long reporting period for a total of $24,150. No Party Affiliation candidate Judy Stevens loaned her campaign $3,000 and the report from write-in candidate Mary Anne Boczek is pending.
Ponte Vedra Beach Republican state Rep. Ron “Doc” Renuart currently represents District 17, which covers St. Augustine up to the southern border of Duval County. Renuart is resigning the seat to campaign for former state Sen. John Thrasher’s Senate District 6 after he left to become Florida State University president.
The HD 17 GOP special primary is Jan. 27, with the general election on April 7.
