‘We the People National March’ protest set for Sunday in Fort Lauderdale

The state, advocates say, 'is the epicenter of where hate legislation is spewing and rippling across the country.'

Fort Lauderdale will be the main stage for a multi-city event demonstrating against what advocates are calling “the slate of hate” they see Gov. Ron DeSantis chiefly promoting and importing to legislative bodies across the country.

For “We the People National March,” organizers say they have more than 2,000 people RSVP’d to mass at Esplanade Park in Fort Lauderdale at 9 a.m. Sunday in protest of some 1,000 state and federal bills that, to them, represent threats to the freedoms of people of color, immigrants, women, LGBTQ communities, Jewish people and more.

It mirrors other events that have happened or are planned for Chicago, New York, and Columbia, South Carolina.

“Ron DeSantis has made Florida a battleground for the soul of the nation,” said Orlando Gonzales, executive director of Safeguarding American Values for Everyone (SAVE) LGBTQ. “He is leading as a model for other states in a way that is very unAmerican.”

Among the well-known faces expected to be marching into that battleground of the nation’s soul: David Hogg, gun rights activist and Parkland shooting survivor and Dolores Huerta, United Farmworkers co-founder.

Also lending their voices to promoting the event are Martin Luther King III, son of the famed civil rights activist; Bootsy Collins, Grammy Award-winning bassist, singer-songwriter and producer; and Nikki Fried, Chair of the Democratic Party.

Imara Canady, spokesman for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, a global nonprofit based in Los Angeles, which is spearheading the event’s coordination, said the main event’s location is highly deliberate.

“Florida is the epicenter of where the hate legislation is spewing and rippling across the country,” Canady said.

“This is a moment in history,” he added. “If not now, when? If not us, who?”

Friday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling that a web designer can opt not to design a wedding website for same-sex couples proved to Rand Hoch that the time has come to take to the streets.

“Get out there and educate people that what the courts and Legislatures are doing is unacceptable,” said the President and founder of the Palm Beach Human Rights Council.

While I am not familiar with this group, “We the People,” given that their group name lacks the words Family, Liberty, Faith, Freedom, and Moms, I will infer this group probably is NOT a bunch of dicks.

The right wing is none of the above. It’s just something they try to appropriate. In reality, right wing police state, low wages, healthcare for the rich only, hate speech, authoritarianism, inhumane prisons, religious cults, far right populists, oppressive legislation, governmental and administrative chaos, banning things etc

We cannot work to get just desantis out of any public office in the next election, we have to remember the whole republican legislation supported and agreed with his sick attack on Florida citizens.

A gathering of Left Wing Lunatics get together in Ft Lauderdale. May the thunderstorms come early and rain on their parade and a bolt of lightning strike Nikki Fried.

    Good mornting America,
This event has all the earmarks of a pre-planned leftist event in which paid (by the left) antifa type of agitators will hurt, maim, and even worse inocent participants lured into coming out to participate in what they think will be a lefty friendly event.
Parents please keep your childern away from these leftist traps in which people may be hurt or worse all in order to falsey attempt to blaim good honest conservative Americans.
Quite likely local [Ft. Lauderdale + County LEO’s] are already committed at other normally held 4th of July events which is why we have this late “pop up” notification of the event. This will gurantee a delay of LEO arrival needed by the paid ( by the left) Antifa agitaters enough escape time in their conservative T shirts. Thus laying the blaim on MAGA boogy men.
    Thank you America,
    Earl Pitts American

Earl is probaby correct in suggesting that counter-demonstrators probably are not true MAGAs. As we all know, true MAGAs are too lazy to go counter-protest, and they can’t afford the bus fare to get their, either, as thew ran their credit cards to the max buying AR15s to keep themselves safe(ly at home because they’re broke AF trying to pay the monthly minimum on their cards). No telling who the counter-demonstrators actually are, but they’re not MAGAs. MAGAs sit at home watching NewsMax and Fox etc, being told what to be scared of if they leave the house and whom to shoot thru the closed and locked front door if anyone, if their opinion, gets too close their “house.”

A veritable Who’s Who of misguided Leftists is not “We the People”. Democrat identity politics has created a coalition of minorities, sexual deviants, mentally ill, and needy takers of govt giveaways, and they have coalesced into a voice that believes that they represent We the People.
Well, I have news for you.
