Momentum continues for the only major Republican candidate for Governor.

A Congressman from Naples is about to get an academic honor … and all he has to do is show up and give some remarks.

Rep. Byron Donalds is the commencement speaker at next month’s St. Thomas University graduation ceremony, where he will get “a Doctor of Ethical Leadership Honoris Causa, an honorary doctorate in ethical leadership, to recognize his commitment to the United States and the well-being of Florida residents.”

The University and the Congressman offered statements.

“We are honored to welcome Congressman Byron Donalds as our commencement speaker,” said David A. Armstrong, J.D., President of St. Thomas University. “His inspiring journey and dedication to public service align with our university’s commitment to fostering ethical leaders who make a difference. We look forward to his message of perseverance and purpose for our graduates as they embark on their next chapter.”

“I am honored to address the St. Thomas University Class of 2025,” said Congressman Donalds. “Our world is rapidly changing, and technology is evolving, but with hard work, confidence, and faith in God, our greatest challenges become our most advantageous opportunities. I look forward to sharing a message of resilience, redemption, and determination as they take on the professional world.”

Speaking of “advantageous opportunities,” Donalds is stacking endorsements for his run for Governor. President Donald Trump, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, and U.S. Reps. Mario Díaz-BalartVern Buchanan, Randy Fine, Scott FranklinLaurel LeeBrian MastJohn RutherfordMaría Elvira Salazar and Daniel Webster all back him. He’s also raised at least $12 million for the effort.

The author sounds a bit jealous.

As if no Democrat political leader ever received an honorary degree before. Must be a slow news day.

I’ve gotten 2 checks for a total of $9,200…this is the best decision I made in a long time! This extra cash has changed my life in so many ways, thank you!”

It’s telling that a sectarian university is awarding Donalds a “Doctor of Ethical Leadership Honoris Causa.” Wonder what this is based on as there is nothing in Donald’s record to suggest anything but MAGA worship — which isn’t exactly ethical, is it?
