Melbourne businessman Brian Hodgers will run for House District 52 in 2016, according the Florida Division of Elections.
In a statement, Hodgers voiced his commitment to the conservative tenets which are dominant in today’s Florida House.
“I am committed to making sure Florida’s economy remains strong, and the best way to do that is to make sure government stays out of the way,” Hodgers said in an announcement. “Eliminating government red tape and cutting wasteful spending are essential to making sure entrepreneurs and employees alike are able to flourish.”
Hodgers will face fellow Republican Robert “Fritz” VanVolkenburgh, an auditor for the Brevard County Clerk of Court’s office.
HD 52 is held by term-limited Speaker Pro Tempore Ritch Workman, a close ally and district neighbor of Speaker Steve Crisafulli. After 2011 redistricting, the seat went from Republican-leaning to safely Republican.
Hodgers owns a Melbourne-based insurance firm called Complete Choice Insurance. He is a graduate of local Florida Atlantic University.
