Miami Beach is installing 50 free sunblock dispensers to help visitors protect themselves against sun damage and skin cancer.

The lotion dispensers will be located at public swimming pools, parks and beach entrances near lifeguard stands.

Destination Brands and Mount Sinai Medical Center sponsored the project. The head of the hospital’s melanoma program tells The Miami Herald that Florida is seeing an increasing number of melanoma cases. Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer.

The city partnered with Destination Brands last year to create a signature line of sunscreens and bronzers to celebrate the city’s centennial. The free lotion available in the public dispensers will be SPF 30. Other MB Miami Beach sunscreen products are available for sale in stores throughout the city.
