On Friday, Gov. Rick Scott announced 28 appointments to a variety of regulatory boards and panels statewide.
Board of Professional Geologists
Scott began by reappointing Louie Bush and Mervin Dale to the Board of Professional Geologists, which regulates the practice of professional geology.
Bush, 64, of Lakeland, is the southeast regional manager for Underground Imaging Technology, a Caterpillar affiliate. His reappointment is for a term ending October 31, 2018.
Dale, 55, of Fort White, is a staff scientist with Environmental Consulting and Technology. His reappointment is for a term ending October 31, 2017.
Both appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
Scott also appointed Allan E. Bartell to the Citrus County Hospital Board.
Bartell, 74, of Inverness, is a retired realtor. He fills a vacant seat for a term ending July 11, 2017.
Bartell’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
Scott then announced ten appointments and two reappointments to Family Care Councils statewide. Family Care Councils advocate individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, identifying needs and funding for support and services.
Area Two, Family Care Council
John Chafin, 78, of Tallahassee, was the former Leon County Tax Collector from 1980-2001. He succeeds David Norton for a term ending October 11, 2016.
Area Four, Family Care Council
Shiela Bryant Butler, 52, of Middleburg, is the president of Black Creek Supports and Services Inc. She succeeds Maria Quinones for a term ending August 6, 2016.
Area Eight, Family Care Council
Barbara Jamison, 59, of Cape Coral, is an advocate for persons with disabilities. She succeeds Susan Robertson for a term beginning ending August 27, 2016.
Patricia Oglesby, 54, of Fort Myers, is an advocate for persons with disabilities. Her reappointment is for a term ending August 24, 2017.
Area Nine, Family Care Council
Ruthie Bunkelmann, 52, of North Palm Beach, is a social worker with Pediatric Partners and Positive Behavior Supports Corporation. She fills a vacant seat for a term ending March 19, 2018.
Terri Harmon, 56, of Boca Raton, is the executive director of Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization. She fills a vacant seat for a term ending March 19, 2018.
Elaine Scola, 63, of Lake Worth, is a partner at Equity Financial Services LLC. She fills a vacant seat a for a term ending March 19, 2018.
Martha Stuart, 63, of Lake Worth, is a retired teacher for Chariho Regional Schools. She fills a vacant seat for a term beginning ending March 19, 2018.
Area Twelve, Family Care Council
Christopher Spears, 40, of Ormond Beach, is an advocate for persons with disabilities. He fills a vacant seat for a term ending March 19, 2018.
Joseph Young, 44, of Ormond Beach, is an advocate for persons with disabilities. He fills a vacant seat for a term beginning ending March 19, 2018.
Mary Ellen Ottman, 60, of Ormond Beach, is an advocate for persons with disabilities. She succeeds Susan Tanner for a term ending January 23, 2017.
Area Fourteen, Family Care Council
Michael Daniels, 48, of Lakeland, is an advocate for persons with disabilities. His reappointment is for a term ending June 29, 2017.

Brain Tumor Research Scientific Advisory Council
Scott appointed Dr. Bruno Bastos and the reappointment of Dr. William Friedman to the Florida Center for Brain Tumor Research Scientific Advisory Council.
Bastos, 36, of Miami Beach, is a physician with Cleveland Clinic. He succeeds Jose Valerio for a term ending August 13, 2018.
Friedman, 61, of Gainesville, is a professor and the chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine. His reappointment is for a term ending August 13, 2018.
Scott also reappointed E. Douglas Spangler, Nolan Sanford Winn, William Ray Holley, and Ralph J. Humphries as Judges of Compensation Claims, part of the Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH). The OJCC arbitrates disputes over workers’ compensation benefits.
Spangler, 68, of Fort Meyers, has been a Judge of Compensation Claims since 2006.
Winn, 61, of Pensacola, has been a Judge of Compensation Claims since 2006.
Holley, 45, of Jacksonville, has been a Judge of Compensation Claims since 2010.
Humphries, 63, of Jacksonville, has been a Judge of Compensation Claims since 2010.
Florida Government Efficiency Task Force
Scott next announced four appointments to the Florida Government Efficiency Task Force, which provides recommendations for improving governmental operations and reducing costs. Each is filling a vacant seat for a term ending June 30, 2016.
John “JR” Alexander, 78, of Frostproof, is the owner of Scenic Highland Enterprises, a real estate consulting firm.
Ken Bell, 58, of Pensacola, is a shareholder with the Gunster Law Firm and a former Florida Supreme Court Justice serving from 2002 to 2008.
Dominic Calabro, 58, of Tallahassee, is the president and chief executive officer of Florida TaxWatch, an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit taxpayer research institute and government watchdog.
Michelle Robinson, 46, of Alpharetta, is the vice president of state and government affairs with Verizon.
Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Diversified Enterprises, Inc. (PRIDE) Board of Directors
Lastly, Scott appointed David Hauser and reappointed Harry Nicklaus to the Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Diversified Enterprises, Inc (PRIDE) Board of Directors. PRIDE is an inmate training company operating Agriculture, SewnProducts, Graphics, Manufacturing, and Services facilities throughout the state of Florida.
Hauser, 61, of Tallahassee, is the director for Shisa Inc Work Release Center and a regional manager with Legal Shield. He succeeds Vicki Lukis for a term ending September 30, 2018.
Nicklaus, 58, of St. Pete Beach, is the owner of Sirata Beach Resort. His reappointment is for a term ending September 30, 2018.
Both appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
