At major fundraiser, GOP insiders signal support for Lenny Curry’s mayoral run

Attendees at last night’s big ticket Jacksonville fundraiser for Rick Scott heard a number of prominent political insiders offer their assessment that Lenny Curry is on track to be the city’s next mayor.

Perhaps the most notable cheerleaders for Curry were Governor Rick Scott and his top fundraiser, Darlene Jordan. When given the microphone to address the crowd of more than 300, both described Curry as the person they expect to defeat Alvin Brown in the city’s next municipal election. In Republican-heavy Duval, the support of Scott and his finance chair are powerful votes of support.

Also worth noting, in the program Curry was tasked with introducing Shad Khan. Khan’s a major player in Jacksonville since buying the NFL franchise Jaguars, and he is also a huge financial backer of Mayor Alvin Brown. The introduction has people in Jax wondering if Khan is going to be the next Brown funder to switch his allegiance to Curry in the run up to next Spring’s elections.
