Backyard poultry seminar in Jacksonville on Tuesday

A victory for grassroots democracy in Jacksonville recently: the establishment of a permanent process for backyard poultry. That process moves forward next week, as the University of Florida IFAS Extension offers a seminar on Tuesday to educate potential hen owners. The class satisfies the educational requirement of the Jacksonville Backyard Poultry Ordinance as well.

For just a $5 “cash only” registration fee at the door, those aspirant hen owners can show up to the Duval County Extension Office at 1010 N. McDuff Avenue at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Topics include Baby Chick Management and Care, Management of Backyard Poultry, Nutrition and Feeding, and COJ Permit Requirement and Procedures.

Pre-registration is required; interested parties are urged to call 904-255-7450 to sign up.

There will be other opportunities for this education in August and September as well.
